WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO USE BIODIESEL

Although no engine modifications are needed when changing over to our Biodiesel it is recommended that you are aware of the filter issues that must be considered.

Biodiesel has a mild solvent base and will break up and dissolve rust and carbon deposits from your fuel tank fuel, lines and injectors that have been left behind from mineral diesel.

For this reason you will have to change your filter at least once but no more than twice when starting to use biodiesel.

The carbon breakup will happen over time depending on concentration of biodiesel you use and the mileage on your vehicle. Even with 100% biodiesel use it will take some time.

There is no set time or duration that this may happen but we like to make sure that you will not encounter any problems when using our fuel. We therefore strongly recommend that you follow this advice.

Once the initial filter changes have been done using the advice below there are no further requirements needed and you can use both mineral diesel and or B100 to suit your needs.

BEFORE YOU START USING BIODIESEL

We recommend that you know the condition of your fuel filter before you start to use more than 50% biodiesel blend (B50). If it has just been changed within 4 months then that will be ok.

If you do not know when your filter was last changed then we would recommend a blend of 50/50 on your first fill then get your filter changed ASAP.

If your filter is partially blocked before you start using biodiesel then it is sure to get blocked quicker and possibly cause problems. For this reason it is always a good idea to start on a new fuel filter.

ONCE YOU KNOW THE CONDITION OF YOUR FILTER

Once you know your filter has just been changed or it is a new filter, you can choose to use our 100% biodiesel (B100).

It is very difficult to predict when to change your fuel filter as we cannot see inside your tank. Your vehicle millage and usage are variable contributing factors. However it is highly dependent on the vehicle mileage and usage. From our previous customers feedback we can more accurately predict when you would need to change your filter.

Once a predicted majority of the carbon deposits have been flushed through your system we than recommended that you change your filter. Please see predicted filter change below: (Final filter change)

PREDICTED FINAL FILTER CHANGE

The following figures are approximations only and will vary from vehicle to vehicle.

If you have done 50000 miles or less in your intended vehicle for biodiesel use then change your filter on or around 5000 miles after you have started on B100.

If you feel a difference in performance please see symptoms of filter blocked below.

If you have done 100000 miles or less in your intended vehicle for biodiesel use then change your filter on or around 2500 miles after you have started on B100. If you feel a difference in performance please see symptoms of filter blocked below.

THE SYMPTOMS OF A BLOCKED FILTER

From our experience we can tell you what will happen if you do not change your filter at the advised stages or if your filter becomes blocked quicker than predicted.

At best you will feel a difference in performance, as in you will find that you have to push your foot down harder and sooner to get the same performance results form your vehicle.

You may also find that you are getting a significant reduction in the MPG from your vehicle as a result.

Alternatively when demanding a high level of fuel, your vehicles engine may splutter due to an insufficient amount of fuel being supplied by the blocked filter.

At the worst case, when you demanding a high level of fuel i.e. when you put your foot down hard on the accelerator, your glow plug light may light up and the engine will cut out shortly after. If your car does cut out it will restart but you must take care not to demand high levels of fuel to prevent this from happening again and get your filter changed ASAP.

These are sure symptoms of your filter being badly blocked and you should get it changed as soon as possible.

These symptoms will cease upon changing your filter and will not cause any damage to your vehicle but we would rather you follow this advice and it not happen at all.

If you have any further questions please do get in touch we will be happy to help.

We would also recommend checking your car manufacturer especially if your vehicle is still under warranty about the use of 100% biodiesel. Although our fuel is made to EN14214 standard and will run in any diesel engine without modification, there are companies who may not produce biodiesel to this standard which affects all companies in the biofuel industry.
